The Bandalong Litter Trap and Boom System have a variety of usages. These are just some of the possibilities.
Usage #1 - Capturing and Collecting Floating Debris
Problem
Protect our waterways and ocean outfalls from water pollution by floating litter and debris.
Solution
This is primarily what the Bandalong Litter Trap was originally designed and patented for to collect floating pollution from our waterways
Outcome
Bandalong Litter Traps have collected thousands of tons of rubbish from creeks, rivers, canals and inlets since 1993
Usage #2 -Pipeline Grille Protection
Problem
Debris was choking inlet grilles of pipelines that flow through to water catchments. This was minimising water flow through to major reservoirs and creating huge maintenance issues for our client.
Solution
Design & Install a Bandalong floating Boom System that deflected debris downstream away from the inlet grille.
Outcome
This proved to be another very successful solution. The water finally flowed unobstructed and the majority of our client's maintenance issues became a thing of the past. This is also proving to act as a safety barrier for recreational users of some waterways
Usage #3 - Tidal Seaweed Management
Problem
Our client wanted to prevent seaweed entering a stormwater channel and being washed upstream during high tide. This caused a bad odour at low tide and our client was receiving many complaints from neighbours. This system also prevented litter and debris escaping into the bay during rainfall and outgoing tides.
Solution
Attach a boom system to either side of the concrete abutment allowing for varying water levels. This system had to be heavy duty allowing for all tidal variances and rough seas.
Outcome
Considering all of our client's needs we designed this boom system site specific, this included attaching wall rider poles to existing abutment then connecting heavy duty boom carriages, this allowed for the varying water levels. Attached beneath the booms was a 1.4 metre deep flexible skirt to deflect submerged seaweed & debris during high water levels.
The Bandalong Litter Trap floats on waterways, given buoyancy by exceptionally strong and durable polyethylene pipes. The unit is held in place by galvanised chains attached to ground anchors or fitted to rider poles for canal installations.
